How did a global in-flight entertainment giant redesign a staple product and avoid millions spent on industry penalties?

They moved quickly to minimize lost revenue…

Panasonic’s reputation for superior service and dependable products was being compromised by faulty handset equipment that would cost them millions of dollars in penalties in the highly regulated aerospace industry. They were struggling to overcome ongoing quality problems and continued delivery delays from their original contract supplier. Complications stemmed from the manufacturer’s inability to deliver on established product and service specifications, resulting in delayed shipments which negatively impacted the airline’s ability to take and operate aircraft. The supplier’s shortcomings were costing Panasonic thousands of dollars each day in penalties. Time was turning into lost revenue, and they needed a solution…fast.

They redirected the business to Morey…

Already engaged in an active working relationship with Morey, Panasonic made the decision to pull the program from their underperforming manufacturer and hand the project over to us. As a first step, Morey conducted a full bill of materials scrub and drawing package review in preparation for a design for manufacturability testability evaluation. Because these aircraft components were certified, fielded products, members of our engineering team simultaneously began traveling around the world to meet with the suppliers inherited through the approved vendor list to start building working relationships. The evaluation of the product leveraged Morey’s full suite of design engineering, manufacturing and testing capabilities. This, coupled with rigorous root cause analysis via Morey’s FAA/EASA Repair Station has resulted in products that will not only meet in-house quality standards, but also exceed Panasonic’s expectations.

They save millions, while making millions…

Morey’s nearly two-decade-long relationship has helped Panasonic save more than $10 million by eliminating penalties accrued due to late and faulty equipment. Morey has twice earned the distinguished Supplier of the Year Award (2003 and 2006) for improving Panasonic’s product reliability, on-time delivery and driving a zero-defects product portfolio.
