Track Less. Know More.

How Slap-N-Track's Motion Start/Stop configuration tells you where your equipment is when it matters, without draining the battery when it doesn't.
"Customers have come to us because the trackers they used in the past promised to last five to ten years. They were barely getting two years out of those devices."
– Marc Boersma, Director of Product
That gap usually comes down to one tradeoff. Most battery-powered asset trackers run on a fixed schedule: every 15 minutes, every hour, twice a day. Report more often and you see more, but the battery pays for it. Report less and the battery lasts, but you might not know where your equipment is at the exact moment you need to.
Slap-N-Track doesn't make you pick a schedule. You set it up around what the asset is actually doing. One configuration has become the go-to: Motion Start/Stop.
How SNT's Motion Start/Stop works
Once a day, the tracker checks in. When the asset starts moving, it sends a report. When it stops, it sends another. Nothing in between.
While potentially interesting, you don't necessarily need forty GPS pings of a trailer rolling down the interstate. You need to know where it left from and where it ended up.
"A report of location only matters if you need to know where the device is at that time. If you don't need to know the location of the asset for three days, you're wasting the tracker's battery."
– Marc Boersma, Director of Product
It moved. You know.
It stopped. You know.
Nothing happened? The battery's still there.
One configuration.
A bunch of different jobs.
Catch a theft and get the asset back
One national equipment rental fleet we work with has assets spread across hundreds of job sites. What we’ve learned is, if one gets stolen, it tends to turn up first at one of a handful of known drop spots nearby. That's where thieves stage equipment before it disappears for good. The fleet drew geofences (virtual zones on a map) around those drop spots, so an alert would fire whenever an asset showed up inside one.
With Slap-N-Track’s Motion Start/Stop enabled, driving through a drop spot doesn't trigger anything. Only stopping inside it does. An asset that starts moving at 3 a.m. and comes to rest 45 minutes later inside a drop spot is a real red flag.
"They know if we get a motion stop report from within that geofence, it's 99% likely that the asset's been stolen."
– Marc Boersma, Director of Product
From there, security can switch that unit into Stolen Asset Mode, so when it starts moving again they can follow the asset to recovery. While they wait, no news is good news. No new motion report means the asset hasn't moved.
Catch a stalled railcar before your customer notices
A railcar sat in a yard for hours after it should have left. The motion-start report that should have come through never did. No motion meant no departure. One call to the railway got it moving again before the delay reached their own customer.
Catch underreported rental hours while the asset's still out
A regional rental company used to take customers' reported hours on faith. Now Slap-N-Track's Motion Start/Stop timestamps show how long an asset actually ran. It works on equipment that drives and on stationary gear that vibrates while it's working. That’s how they caught a customer underreporting hours a few days into a rental, not after the asset came back.
The battery payoff
None of this matters if it costs you the battery life you bought the tracker for. It doesn't.
Motion Start/Stop sends 3 to 5 reports a day on average. Reporting that rarely is what gets Slap-N-Track to an expected 10,000 pings in the field. Rental assets typically last about 5 years, so one tracker can outlast the equipment it's mounted on, with no battery swaps along the way.
Fleets have been sold that promise before and rarely got it. The reason it holds this time is simple: the tracker only reports when there's something worth reporting.
"This Motion Start/Stop configuration is, in my opinion, the holy grail of how to use the Slap-N-Track. It's the same configuration across a whole variety of use cases, different industries, different assets, different goals, and it's still the best way to get the data you need."
– Marc Boersma, Director of Product
