01/28/09: SX1 Satellite HERO Certification Press Release
Numerex SX1 Satellite Tracking Unit, Manufactured by The Morey Corp., Receives HERO Certification for DOD
SX1 is the first satellite tracking unit to obtain Premium Service Device status for Military Agencies
Woodridge, Illinois, USA – One of the world’s smallest battery‐operated satellite‐based tracking units, the Numerex SX1, manufactured by The Morey Corporation, has successfully completed rigorous testing under the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). Following such Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance, or HERO, testing, Numerex received HERO certification, which, together with successful environmental testing, clears the way for any military agency to procure SX1 satellite tracking tags.
The Morey Corporation, one of America’s leading electronics manufacturers, was chosen by Numerex in 2007 to package and manufacture the SX1, one of the world’s smallest and longest lasting global satellite-based battery-operated tracking tags. The SX1 is the first in a planned series of self-contained, long duration, battery-operated satellite-based tracking tags that can accurately and cost effectively monitor and track assets all over the world.
The SX1 met or exceeded 16 methods within the MIL‐STD 810F requirements during the first phase of testing at the UNICOR test laboratory in Littleton, Colorado, making it the most rugged satellite tracking tag available today. This included a variety of environmental tests designed to emulate theater of operation conditions including desert, jungle, arctic and other extreme climates. Methods included temperature extremes, shock and vibration, humidity and water integrity testing among others. Phase two consisted of HERO testing at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, where the SX1 received the highest certification rating available, Zero separation distance from Ordnance. HERO testing ensures safe operation in close proximity to ordnance present in munitions containers per applicable Department of Defense standards 6055.09. All electromagnetic transmitting devices that will operate in close proximity to ordnance must pass the HERO testing.
Measuring only 7.25”x 3.25”x ” (184×83x25mm) and weighing just 13 ounces (369g), the SX1 can be attached in seconds to high value assets such as intermodal shipping containers, trailers, buoys, barges, and mobile generators. The SX1 offers several “peel and stick” mounting options enabling simple implementation on virtually any surface.
The SX1 is part of a complete, turn‐key, global satellite tracking and monitoring solution offered by Numerex as part of its All Terrain M2M™ services and solutions. Morey’s expertise in industrial design and manufacturing of hardened electronics was a key step in the SX1’s development. Bundled within a small, economical and versatile package that incorporates a field replaceable battery, the SX1 is extremely rugged and can withstand real‐world conditions such as high levels of vibration, heat, shock and moisture. Manufactured in the U.S. and certified to exceed MIL STD 810, IP68 and NEMA 6P ratings, the SX1 has the highest environmental integrity of any RFID, satellite or cellular tracking device, and is capable of delivering up to seven years of uninterrupted service on a single battery pack.
In addition to providing global GPS visibility, the Numerex SX1 helps alleviate security concerns, reduce costs associated with shipping delays and fleet downtime, and increase functional and logistical efficiencies for military and emergency field operations, shippers and consignees, commercial freight operators including forwarders, steamship lines, railroads, trucks, port operators, and customs agencies globally.
